There are many opportunities to ride a dirt bike in Queensland's parks and forests around the State if you are licensed and have are road-registered. Here are a few suggestions for some of the most popular places you might want to try.
- Beerburrum
- Benarkin
- Yarraman
- Lockyer
- Byfield
- Cathu
- Mia Mia
- D’Aguilar
- Mapleton
- Barakula
- Tuan
The roads zigzagging through Beerburrum, Benarkin, Yarraman and Lockyer are ideal for a day ride. There’s more to explore at Byfield, Cathu and Mia Mia. All these roads are multi-use so remember to give way to horses and walkers and be aware of bicycles and other vehicles.
For a challenge, ride along the ‘A Break’ in the Mount Mee section of D’Aguilar, or take to the 26km trail-bike only Gheerulla trail-bike track in Mapleton. After a day of riding stay overnight at the Gheerulla camping area—limited facilities are provided and a camping permit is required.
Explore the large network of forestry roads (beware of logging trucks) through Barakula, the largest State forest in the Southern Hemisphere.
If you’re a trail-bike rider who enjoys fishing, head to Tuan where camping and fishing complete a great journey. You can explore the State forest on formed roads and then camp at The Log dump (a camping permit is required and fees apply). While you’re there, throw a fishing line into the adjacent creeks or Great Sandy Strait.
